Essential Question: To what extent should our membership to a particular group shape how we interact with other members of society?

Lesson 1

Colors was a name of a film done in the mid-80s about the on-going struggle between two enoromous street gangs, the Bloods and the Crips. Their use of the colors is so powerful that to be found in a rival's neighborhood sporting the enemy's colors on your clothing could end in death. This "color distinction" permeates a lot of gangs throughout North America. Even in cities in Canada the color distinction can become an issue amongst street gangs.
The street gang is a powerful social group in many socities. This chapter will start with a brief introduction into the history of society and how it has changed, and the groups that make up the larger social matrix.
To begin, please view an exerpt from the film featuring its theme song done by Ice-T.
